Why is life so expensive? We have like $30 to our names right now in the bank-- I feel your pain. Good that you at least have food in the house! That's more than I can say. Thank goodness for improvising!

time for some huggggge cut-backs in your life... also finding ways to get extra money (even if it's collecting beer bottles/pop cans, and returning them to the store. my short-sighted neighbors would throw all of theirs out next to the garbage bins every week when i live in my old apartment... i'd make $15-30 per month off those folks by returning their cans (without their knowing!)).

there really isnt anywhere else to cut back that we already havent. i refuse to get rid of our tv and internet bc thats ALL we pretty much have for entertainment as we dont go anywhere very often bc of costs. aside from tv and internet, the others things we pay for are necessities like utility bills, mortgage and car payments, food and gas as well as some medical expenses for our meds. i wish it were as easy as "hugggge cute backs in my life" but it just isnt. we get by on what we can and try not to spend on things we dont need and can do without.

that is a good idea about the cans and bottles though! every little bit helps!

abbbsolutely.

in fact, if you're ready for a full on personal/family finance revolution, spend some time reading the 21 day plan on this website:

i'm the master at saving money at this point... like you said, every bit counts. but it's not just the saving... it's investing the money to allow it to grow, and it's cutting back on shit you don't need (you might THINK you need, but you don't... ie: air conditioning, multiple TV's, cable, home internet, more than one phone (ie. a cell phone for everyone in your family? hell no), cut each other's hair (my gf has practiced, cuts my hair every 6 weeks or so... she's become amazing at it, and it saves tons o' money per year (at least $100), eating-out (INCLUDING fast food), if you do eat out, only order water to drink (as drinks are crazy expensive), car-pooling to work, collecting/returning cans/bottles, contributing as much as you can to 401K if your company offers it, buying/trading for stuff on craigslist etc, really careffffully deciding whether you should throw something out (or can you fix it on your own????), working for a few hours on the weekend (even if it's delivering junk mail).... get your kids involved too...

it always feels good when you can actually PAY the bills, huh? even if there's not much left for fun afterwards (but, hey, who says we need money to have fun!)
